CIBA/YCC Travel Award

The ACS Younger Chemists Committee (YCC) and the CIBA Foundation are proud to offer the Ciba Young Scientist Travel Award. This award provides funding for young and early-career chemists to travel to and participate in an ACS national or regional meeting. Through this travel award, the YCC and the CIBA Foundation continue to support the development of younger chemists in the chemical sciences.

The award is intended for young scientists under forty (40) years of age who are 1) in a postdoctoral position or 2) within the first seven (7) years of their professional career. (PhD Students are ineligible)

Up to $1000 Travel Award

Each award will be made on the basis of scientific merit and financial need. Funds may be applied only for ACS National or Regional Meeting registration, travel, and accommodations.

Eligibility

  • Under the age of forty (40) years of age at the time of application
  • In a postdoctoral position OR within the first seven (7) years of a professional career
  • Current ACS member
  • Have not received a prior award under this program

Application Deadline

for meetings occurring between January 1 and June 30

for meetings occurring between July 1 and December 31

Late applications will not be considered. Travel awards cannot be used for meetings already attended.

Include in your application:

All application material must be received by the application close date for consideration
  • Completed CIBA/YCC Young Scientist Travel Award application
  • A short biography for publication on the YCC website (100 words or less)
  • Essay explaining why you should receive the award. Include both scientific and financial reasons, if applicable (500 words or less)
  • Abstract and title of the paper you intend to present
  • Indicate which ACS National or ACS Regional Meeting you intend to use the YCC/CIBA Travel Award to attend and present your work
  • List publications within the past five (5) years
  • List professional meetings you have attended within the past two (2) years
  • List your academic achievements, awards, recognitions etc. (received in the past five (5) years)
  • List oral and poster scientific presentations given within the past five (5) years. Please indicate invited talks
  • Your current curriculum vita or resume including your permanent address (PDF or DOC)
  • List of any other additional sources of funding (with amounts) which you have applied for or anticipate receiving to cover your travel expenses. Selection Preference

Awards will be given with preference to the following:
  1. Applicants making their first presentation at an ACS national or regional ACS meeting
  2. Applicants who have not presented at an ACS national, regional or other major scientific meeting since degree completion. For example:
    1. Postdoctoral applicants who have not presented at a national or regional ACS meeting since completing their graduate degree
    2. Early career professionals (within 7 years of degree completion, regardless of degree) who have not presented at a national or regional ACS meeting since completing their degree
  3. Applicants currently under the age of 40 OR within 7 years of degree completion regardless of the number of prior presentation at ACS national or regional meetings
